Language Policy

According to the South African School Act of 1996 (No. 84 van 1996), the School Governing Body determines the language policy of the school.

Stulting Primary School is a mixed (boys / girls) parallel medium (English / Afrikaans) school. The language of instruction is English and Afrikaans.

The underlying language policy is to emphasise the home language as language of instruction. At the same time Stulting Primary offers one additional language, either English or Afrikaans to its learners.

Gr. R – 2: learners receive instruction in their home language (English or Afrikaans). On admission to grades R to 2 the assumption is made that the learner’s communication and language skills are of such a nature that the learner will be able to be taught effectively in his home language (English or Afrikaans).

Gr. 3 – 7: all learners receive instruction in their home language (English or Afrikaans) and in one additional language (either Afrikaans or English).

On admission to grades 3 to 7 the assumption is made that the learner’s communication and language skills are of such a nature that the learner will be able to be taught effectively in his home language (English or Afrikaans) and in one additional language (either Afrikaans or English).
